Q: I had protected sex with my boyfriend. However, we later realised that the condom was torn. As an emergency action, I washed my vagina and took an I-pill after an hour. My periods are due next week. Are there chances of pregnancy? How do we confirm the same?

A: The condom breaks if it’s stored in a warm environment (wallet or the glove compartment of the car). Or maybe the condom had expired. If the semen entered the vagina, washing may not stop the sperms from entering the uterus. It is best to wait for the periods. You could test for pregnancy with a pregnancy kit available at the local chemist.
